The atmosphere at Grandma's Philly is cozy and moody, setting the perfect vibe for a cute meal. The food was great overall, with beautifully plates and unique flavors. I really enjoyed my tapioca dumplings - loved the texture of the dumplings with the crispy onions. However, the drunken noodles were too sweet and had a strong sriracha taste, which was a bit overpowering. The other downside was the service - our waiter was hard to get a hold of. Still, a solid spot I'd definitely return to!
We went on a busy Saturday evening around 6:30pm. Despite the crowd, we were seated right away. For food, I went with the Massaman Curry and my friend had the Panang Curry. We both opted for Level 1 spiciness, though I found the Panang Curry to have a bit more of a kick than the Massaman Curry. Both dishes were packed with flavor! If I were to return, I would definitely go for a Level 2 spicy Massaman Curry to kick things up a notch. The ambiance was warm and inviting, with just the right level of background music, not too loud, so we could still enjoy our conversation. Overall, this place continues to be my top choice for Thai food in Center City. I can't wait to return!
This was my second time at Grandma's Philly and it was excellent once again! My friend was running a little bit late for our reservation; while I was seated and waiting, our waiter came over a couple times to check on me. I also liked how each table had a little lamp, giving me light to read my menu. If it's too bright, there's another setting to make it warmer and less bright, and the waiter did that for us. I got the green curry with squash and beef and my friend got the khao soi. We were asked to choose a spice level between 1-5. I loved the green curry - the beef was so soft and fell apart with the first chew, and the squash's lightly sweet taste was a good balance to the spicy-savoriness of the dish. I took leftovers home, and the one dish is enough for three of my meals. My friend enjoyed her khao soi and took leftovers home too. Looking forward to coming back :) Bring cash! There's a surcharge for card.
I love this place! The Thai food is amazing! I also love the atmosphere here. It's very hip, trendy, and classy. This is the first Thai restaurant I've been to that had a really nice ambiance! It was a nice change! A lot of Thai restaurants in my experience have been more hole in the walls. This is the best Thai restaurant I've been to in Philly so far! Don't let the name fool you. I initially thought it was homemade southern food based on the name haha! I was surprised to learn it was a Thai restaurant! All my friends have raved about this place too, so I had to try it! For food I ordered the pad see ew and curry puffs which were both amazing!! The curry puffs are an appetizer which are fried pastry puffs made with chicken, potato, onion, and curry inside. So delicious! Also the Thai iced tea was so yummy! I've been here a few times and everyone has ordered different dishes and they've all looked incredible. Everything on the menu also sounds amazing. I will definitely be coming back here!
This place can be packed on weekends and came highly recommended by a friend. Take out or pick up orders should be placed well ahead of time during those busy weekend hours or you might find yourself waiting for quite a while. The pad kee mao or drunken noodles were good though they added some different vegetables in there than what I'm used to seeing in this dish from other places. Penang curry was tasty as well and comes a small serving of rice. Looking forward to coming back to try some other curries and dishes.
Went here for a friend's birthday dinner on a Saturday night. Here are my thoughts: Atmosphere: casual, cozy Decor: sleek but homey, intimate lighting Music: alternative rock, rnb, top 40s Food: had a medley of apps (some being the curry puffs and chicken satay skewers) and for my main I had the Kad Prao Chicken. Goodness... I want the recipes to everything I ate that night. I live in NJ but would go to Philly for a night just to eat here again! Drinks: the lychee martini was made well Service: really great service! Hunter is such a cutie Good for: date night, girl's night, first date The only issue I had was that my friend did a lot of planning for her dinner (which was a large group) but upon arrival we were told that the whole party would be split between two tables that weren't near each other. The birthday girl had to walk back and forth between two tables the whole night to make sure the entire party was getting the same care.
I've always wanted to try Grandmas and I'm glad I finally did!! Anywhere I go my go-to is the bar area and this one is small but epic in its own way! A nice large tv for everyone's view, but a nice L shape for intimate interactions and connections with the bartender and other guests. Menu options are great. I've pictured a few, even the light snack options I got were filling. I love Thai cuisine and this establishment doesn't disappoint. I went three times in one weekend when I was visiting this area. The ambiance is so cute and chic! The tables in the window where you get a great view of Walnut street and folks walking over from Sansom. The staff is also a plus, incredible! Check out Grandmas Philly if you get the chance!
Thai comfort food in a city life atmosphere. Right near Chinatown, this spot is nestled in a bustling area. After a long 2 hour flight... haha, we decided that Thai would never disappoint us. And it sure didn't here. This spot did it right. This spot was very... cocktails by moonlight while staring into your date's eyes kinda vibes. Plates are considered tapas 'shareable' unless you're greedy then I'd understand why- if you're dining here. Mission: eat all the goods and order more type of place. Service was great and attentive. Went on a Thursday night and wasn't too jam packed, no wait.
